Watercoloured Vellum Flowers

I spent all afternoon making this card for someone special while my daughter's rushed around me showing me things and having some crafty time themselves. Unfortunately, their darn fevers are back for both of them and I have to take my oldest to the clinic in the morning, I think she's got an ear infection. It's been quite a while since she's had one of those, but the pain is really bad and she's just not herself. Poor girl. :( At least they aren't scheduled to have school tomorrow, it's an Evaluation Assessment Day for them. She hates to miss school and I don't like keeping her home, she doesn't like to miss anything! Such a keener to learn...hope the enthusiasm keeps up! lol :)

I decided to play with some of my Vellum cardstock to make the pretty flowers for this card...my girls absolutely fell in love with them and they want me to make them a whole bunch of them! I don't think they realize how long it takes to make just one, let alone a whole bouquet of them as they would like to have, though! lol :) First, I stamped the flower image, and set the dye ink with my heat tool. Then, I cut out the flower carefully with sharp scissors, being careful not to crack the vellum. I watercoloured the back, letting it dry between layers and then coloured in the stamens with a gold gel pen on the front to add dimension. I love the way the petals curl when you add colour to them. It gives such a soft, delicate look to them.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Colour Inspiration Blog

All I can say is WOW!! I saw this link recommended by Lauren and I thought I'd check it out...who doesn't need a little help with colour combos from time to time, eh? Well, look no further for a site that has tonnes, and I mean tonnes of different colour combos! Check out Kris's Colour Stripes, she's located in Italy and has some some really neat pics to share and the colour stripes to go with the pics. Very cool! I can see I'm gonna be spending a lot of time on there! lol :)

I'm off today, so I'll have something to show you a little later on today. Haven't decided what it will be yet, but stay tuned...

Hoo Me? Sleepy Owl

This is kinda how I feel today, 'Sleepy...Hoo, Me?' lol :) I've been working a lot of hours between my current part time job and another contract job that I accepted that will run for about 2 months. The contract job that I'm working with is with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax. I worked with them last year for their Bowl For Kids Sake Event, it's their big annual fundraiser, (they raised $294, 000 during this event in 2007!) Last year, I worked as a data entry person and this year they've asked me to return as their shift supervisor. It's a pile of data entry to get all the pledges recorded and all the receipts ready to be sent out. Piles and piles of paperwork. But, it's a great crew to work with and it's such a great cause. They're able to help so many children with the help of such generous people's donations. So, even if I am tired, a little bit of extra work is well worth it!

If you're interested in checking out what Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about, please check out the link above and feel free to make a donation, if you'd like. They appreciate it immensely! It's all about the kids! :)

Asian Watercolour

I decided to play a bit with my watercolour crayons this afternoon before I have to go into work and I came up with this Asian themed card. I found this patterned paper that I've had for a while now, and I thought I'd pair it with some red cs to pull out the hint of red from the patterned paper. The cream background patterned strip to the side of the stamped image is actually a sticker from a Creative Memories kit.

Well, gotta go cook supper, and get ready for work...

45th Anniversary

My parents will be celebrating their 45th Wedding Anniversary in a few weeks and I'm trying to come up with a nice design for a card for them. I absolutely love this patterned paper from DCWV and I wanted to use it...I'm just having trouble coming up with a layout. I didn't want to cover up all the pretty glittered paisley images and I wanted to stamp directly onto the patterned paper, but I needed a space where there wasn't any glitter so that the stamp would be clear. So, my options became more and more limited the further I got into the card! lol :)

Anyway, I love the medallion and flower from the SU set, Baroque Motifs, so I opted to use those and then leave it simple with some bling to finish it off. I think I'd re-do the flower where I added the extra gold gel pen to the edges...I don't think it needs it and just ends up looking tacky.

So, what do you think, does this look like a card for a 45th anniversary? Maybe it's too dark...I was just going for an elegant design with a bit of an aged look. Please, be truthful...I'm open for suggestions.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Supplies:
Stamps: Baroque Motifs (SU), Love themed set (Studio G)
Patterned Paper: Once Upon a Time Print - Enchanted Paisley (DCWV)

Best Friends Listen...

I had a bit of time to spare this afternoon, so I decided to get in some crafty time since I have to work tonight and won't have a chance to then. I've been wanting to use this SEI paper for a while now, just wasn't sure what I wanted to use it with. I couldn't sleep last night and got to thinkin' about card designs...this one's not very ingenious, I know...but I kinda like how it turned out. I just think it's missing something. I was gonna use my ticket corner punch for the corners of the patterned paper...but I decided to leave them as is. I still think it's missing something, though. Any suggestions?

I really wish I had some markers, especially when it comes to colouring stamps to get a two-tone effect for an image. I used my SU ink spots and it's hard to get the colour 'only' on the part you want it. Oh well, for the amount of times I do this, I guess the way I'm doing it for now will work! lol :) It just occurred to me...could I use my SU watercolour crayons to brush the colour directly onto the stamp? Or would it be too watery? I guess I could try and see how it works. Ok, that's my 20 questions for today!!! lol :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Stamps: True Friend, (SU), Garden Whimsy (SU)

Funny Birthday Card

Thought I'd share a little birthday funny with you...I had a birthday card to make and I wanted it to provide a laugh. I totally scooped the idea from a Hallmark card (of the frog and the words) from a birthday card that Jim got for his birthday, but I came up with the layout. Jim and I roared with laughter when he got this card, I hope this one provides half the amusement! lol :)

This is the front of the card

This is the inside flap of the card

This shows the whole card inside
Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Supplies:
Cardstock: Chocolate (Bazzill), Wild Wasabi (SU), Pumpkin (Bazzill), Bashful Blue (SU), Beige (The Paper Company)
Ink: Chocolate Chip (SU)
Embellishments: Frog and Dragonfly Glitter Stickers (Dollarama), Antique Copper Brads (Dollarama)
Tools: Brown Silver Ball Pen (Staedtler), Cuttlebug, Bubbles Embossing Folder

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Oh, wow...I just finished my card and it's 1:17 am...my youngest didn't go to bed until 11:20 pm tonight, man, was she ever wound!!! Ya gotta love chocolate sugar highs! I've hidden all the rest of the Easter candy to be rationed now, I think she must have eaten a bunch more eggs when I wasn't looking today! lol :)

So, after I finally got her to sleep, I decided to head in for some wind-down crafty time and I came up with this design using the cute gingham brads that my Mum gave me today. She also gave me the plaid patterned paper. I thought I'd make a blue 'baby boy' card this time, since I rarely make these. It's always nice to have an extra one in my stash of cards to have on hand, just in case I need one.

Well, it's time to call it a day. I imagine my youngest will sleep in a bit, but my older daughter will be up at the crack of dawn, I'm sure!

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Easter Holiday this weekend. I had my Mum and Dad and my Brother and his family over for lunch today for a big Easter Dinner and now we're just having a relaxing evening at home. We're all still pretty full of turkey and ham...so I think it'll just be turkey sandwiches for supper. I think the sugar is starting to wear off for the kids, so they should be ready for bed soon...it was pretty wild there for a while at the height of the chocolate rush! Gotta love all the extra sugar, eh? lol :) My Mum brought me some crafty goodies (patterned paper and some brads) to play with, I think I'll play with the gingham fabric brads tonight to make a card. I have an idea brewing for a little baby boy card...we'll see how it turns out. lol :)

Note: I had to turn the 'word verification' feature on for my comments. In the past couple of days, I've received a bunch of spam comments, so I'm hoping this will take care of the stuff coming in that shouldn't be. I'm not a fan of having to do the word verifications myself when I leave comments, but I'm less of a fan of getting spam comments that could infest my computer! Darn people out there with nothing better to do with their time! :(

I'll be back later tonight with a new creation. Until then...

Welcome Little One

Ok, so I tried another baby card tonight...more along a 'baby' theme this time. I'm quite happy with how this one turned out, I think it's nice and girly and more fitting for the occasion of a new arrival of a little baby girl. I love this patterned paper by Making Memories, the paisley has such a delicate design and I love the shades of pink and green and white together.

We had a great afternoon. We took the kids to go see Horton Hears a Who, the new Dr. Seuss movie. The girls were thrilled with their surprise of going to the movies and we went out to dinner afterwards, it was nice not to have to cook supper. Just relaxing a bit tonight and tomorrow I have to plan the dinner for my family coming over on Sunday for Easter Dinner. I work tomorrow night, so I won't be getting in any more crafty time until probably Sunday night. So, until then...

Showers of Joy

I finally got a chance to get back into my stamp room tonight to create something...I had an idea in my head and this is how it turned out. My original idea was to make a flower that sort of looked like an umbrella and on the inside, for the card to read, 'Showers of Joy'. This card was supposed to be for a friend of mine that just had a new little baby girl...but, I'm not sure it's appropriate. Why can't I just come up with a normal baby card without all the silly hidden meanings! lol :) All my birthday cards, as well, just seem to be general cards with flowers or something on them, never birthday cakes or typical 'birthday' themed images. I dunno...what do you think? Perhaps I'll try another style tomorrow...

I was also trying to use some colours that I don't normally use. Yes, I know the green or Wild Wasabi is common to my colours, but I rarely use Groovy Guava or River Rock. It's not that I don't like the colours, I just never seem to reach for them from my stash. But, I actually really like these colours together and they remind me of Spring. That's good, 'cause even though it's officially Spring, it sure doesn't look like it outside! We got more freezing rain last night and this morning, it warmed up later today and melted the ice, but there's still snow everywhere. Ok Mother Nature, enough is enough! lol :)

RAK from Cindy and an update on me

Yesterday was a very happy mail day! I received this beautiful card and CTMH 'Serendipity' stamp set from Cindy Vernon of Creating with the Heart. I won this stamp set as 'heart candy' as she calls it, on her blog recently. Thanks so much, Cindy, I can't wait to ink these up! :)

Well, I'm, off to have some lunch and then go to work. Life has been very busy lately, but I have tonight off, so I can see some crafty time in my near future! Yeah! lol :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Update: I had my appointment with the Breast Surgeon yesterday as she said she's not happy with the results of the Mammogram and the Ultrasound that I had done since the breast tissue was very dense and they couldn't see much. That's partly because of my age, since the tissue is more dense the younger you are, and it's partly because I breastfed both my girls for over a year and half each. Anyway, she's making an another appointment for me, this time to go have Genetic Testing for Breast Cancer, just to make sure that there aren't any cancerous cells present because there are so many relatives in my family that have had Breast Cancer and have had to have Mastectomies. So, now I have to wait for that appointment...so, the waiting continues. I'm not letting it drive me crazy anymore, though. It could drive a person crazy with wondering, and life's too short to drive yourself crazy about the unknown! I'll keep ya posted.

Little Leprechauns

Oops, I meant to post these pics yesterday of my little St. Patty's Day Leprechauns, but I didn't have time before I went to work and I didn't get home til late and I was too tired to post anything.

This is my little 'Poser', Alexandria...can you tell she loves to ham it up for pics? lol :) This was taken up at my in-laws over March Break vacation. She's showing off her new St Patty's Day jewelry that her Grandma gave her.
This is my little 'Leprechaun', Natalia. Isn't the hat cute that she made at pre-school last week?

My little smirker...
Ok, enough pictures, Mama! lol :)

OK, short post, gotta run to go get Alexandria at school, go get Jim at work and then go to work myself. Gonna try to get in some crafty time tonight after I get home shortly after 10. We'll see how long of a night it is and how tired I am...lol :)

St. Patty's Day Treat Bags

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Yeah, I know it's not until the 17th...but that's only a couple of hours away! lol :)

I saw this idea of attaching a card front to a bag the other day at a local stamp store, Carousel Rubber Stamps, and thought I'd make some little St. Patty's Day themed bags for each of my girls. They love little bags, boxes, purses, etc. to fill with assorted goodies, so I think they'll like these. The bags are a very simple design, but I know they'll love all the bling! I just freehand-cut the stems and all the hearts to make the leaves of the 4 leaf clover, did up a normal A2 sized card front, then attached it to a little white bag from Carousel. I did have to trim the bag slightly to make it just shy of 5 1/2" high.

In our family, we're not ones to go all out on St. Patty's Day, but I just thought this would be a fun little project to do up for the kids and we'll have our traditional Green eggs tomorrow, they always get a kick out of those. Other than that, it'll be a normal day for us. But, to all of my Irish friends out there, have a green beer for me and try not to kiss any fools! lol :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Supplies:
Cardstock: Plum, Green, White (The Paper Company)
Ink: Certainly Celery (SU)
Stamps: Crosshatch background (SU)
Tools: Ticket Punch (SU), Scissors, Thumbtack (to pole holes for brads), Mini White Paper Bags (Carousel Rubber Stamps)
, Double-Sided Adhesive Tape
Embellishments: Green Gem Brads (Dollarama)

March Break Vacation

We've just returned from a week at my husband folks place for a little visit over the March Break holiday. We had a great visit and the kids thoroughly enjoyed seeing their grandparents again, but they were also thrilled with all the snow that they have up there and the wildlife that they get to see up in the country!

Here's a pic of the evening that we arrived, I looked out their living room window, which overlooks the Miramichi River and I spied a few deer wandering across the frozen river looking for food. As we were looking at them, more and more deer just kept wandering out and we counted 22 in all! (They're not all in this shot, some of the pics didn't turn out since they were quite a distance from the window.) They're such a beautiful animal and so graceful. I feel bad for how hard it is for them to find food this time of year, though, with all the snow covering the ground.

Here's a closeup of one of the deer that came in right by the house, it's just a young one, so precious! Sorry about the glare on the window at the right of the pic...

Here's a look at all the snow up there! I've never seen snow like this in my life! Holy cow! Check out that snowbank behind me...it towers over me and I'm 5'10" tall!!!

To give you another view, here's me standing on the crust on top of the snow next to the clothesline, I actually have to reach down to touch the line! Don't mind the funny closed eyes...that's a terrible habit that I have when my picture is taken! lol :)

We spent an afternoon making a snow tunnel, well, actually mostly my Hubby, Jim and his Dad made it while the kids played in the snow and I took pictures! lol :) That's my oldest daughter, Alexandria peeking out through the tunnel. Jim was kinda disappointed cause they only crawled through it a few times before they lost interest in his hours of work chiseling through the layers of frozen snow! Poor Jim! The tunnel was about 12 feet long...anyway, I think he had fun, so that's good! lol :)
Well, it's been a busy day of putting the house back together after being away for a week, laundry's all done and everything is put away, groceries and errands were done today, now tomorrow I can relax a bit, we're expecting another snowstorm, so it should be a good evening to get in some good crafty time! That's good, 'cause I'm going through a bit of crafty withdrawal! lol :)

Stampin' Night at Kim's

I had a wonderful time out last night with the girls for a stampin' night at Kim's. We did three projects - a beautiful little basket, a sweet little Easter Bunny chocolate bar sleeve....I'm sure my girls won't like those at all! lol :) Our final project was a tri-fold card using my favourite colours! I didn't pick the colours, honest! It's been a while since I've made one of these tri fold cards, they're a fun card to make. Deborah is hosting the next stampin' get together and she came up with a new card challenge and we have to bring our card that night. It's to make some sort of fun-fold card...just a card that has a different fold to it than the traditional card. Humm, I'll have to think about it...oh I know exactly what I'm gonna make. You'll have to wait to see it, though! Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah! lol :)

A sweet little basket and Deborah actually gave me her basket, too, so that I'd have one for each of my girls. I'll give them to them for Easter, I know they'll be thrilled, they love little baskets to hold their treasures in! Thanks again, Deborah! :)
A little Chocolate Bar Sleeve...gotta get a Hershey Dark Chocolate bar to slip inside.

Kim gave each of us a beautiful card for coming over and this is the gorgeous card that I got from her. I love the vintage look to it and the peach and green colours compliment each other so well. The buttons add a fun touch. :) Thanks so much for having us over, Kim, and for the lovely card and the 'to-die-for' slice of Peanut Butter Pie! Gotta get that recipe! It tasted sinful, but came from the Splenda cookbook, so really it was quite sinfree! I should have had two pieces!!! lol :)
We also each brought our Colour Challenge cards last night and I drew Val's name and she drew mine. This is her beautiful card that I got to keep. Check it out, it has my favourite green in it! Funny enough, I think it turned out that for each card received, we got a card that included the colours that we weren't allowed to use! We all thought that was pretty amusing! I really like the soft colours of Val's little square card and the daintiness of it. Just beautiful! Thanks, Val! :)

New Blog Template and Banner

After much begging and pleading, I finally got my Hubby, Jim, to make me a new blog blanner. I was getting a bit tired of the old one, looking for a new fresh look. I'm really happy with what he came up with. Isn't he a sweetheart? I chose the colours and the flourishes, but he put it all together for me. I wouldn't have a clue where to start! lol Thanks, Jim! :)

Happy 5th Birthday, Georgia!

My neighbours little girl is having her 5th birthday on Sunday and she's an Ariel (Disney Mermaid Princess) fanatic, so I thought I'd make her card to fit the theme of the birthday party. I realize it's a pretty plain card, but I couldn't seem to find any other Ariel images that I could use, and then I spotted this dp. The image is large, so I had to make an extra big card - 6" x 8" to accommodate the image layer and few extra layers to add a little bit to it. Not sure if the colours really match...lol...I was going for a reddish tone to match the colour of Ariel's hair and the green to pick up on the ocean plant life.

I'm off to stamp with the girls tonight - really looking forward to it and we're making little Easter
baskets, they should be really cute! I'll try to post them later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Altered Serving Tray

I've been wanting to alter something for my Mum for her birthday and this serving tray is what I finally decided on. She loves daisies and I like this old SU dp, so I went with it along with a whimiscal butterfly theme. I hope she likes it! :) I bought the serving tray (or memory tray as they call it) at Michaels. It's a nice, sturdy tray that came pre-painted with the white finish and it also came with a clear acrylic protective insert. My idea originally was to make the serving tray with some Envirotex sealer to do a really good job...but I chickened out! lol :) I know it probably isn't that difficult to use, but I could just envision a huge, sticky mess on my part or ruined my job altogether! One of these days, however, I'll brave the Envirotex...it's some pretty cool stuff. You can check out the link above if you're not familiar with this product.

Here are some other views and a few closeups...

With Sympathy Dove

I dropped off my daughter at school this morning to learn some sad news, the only Secretary at her school suddenly passed away on the weekend, so I wanted to make a card to give to her family. She'll certainly be missed at school as she did so much to make everything run smoothly. All the children thought very fondly of her, so I know things will be a little quiet over there for a while. May she rest in peace.

Cards from Kelly

This is the beautiful card that Kelly Eelhart brought over last night that she made for our Colour Challenge. Kelly thought she went a little 'glitter happy', but I think it's gorgeous! Great job, Kelly! :)

This is a RAK card that Kelly made for me since she knows I love dragonflies! Isn't it pretty? I love the soft colours! Very Springlike! :)

OK, I need to go clean up toys...the inevitable time has come...couldn't a toy fairy just come over and do it for me? I seriously look forward to a few years down the road when we can get rid of most of these little toys...since I'm the only one that seems to know how to clean them up...

Copper Embossed True Friend

Ok, Here's the card that I made for Kim's Colour Challenge. I see Kim caved and posted her's already, so here's mine, too! lol :) You can see Kim's beautiful card here. Check out the gorgeous photostamp that she used on glossy cardstock! Amazing!

I decided to try some copper cardstock for my card and some beautiful chocolate ribbon for an elegant look. I think this is the first time that I've ever used only one stamp set for an entire card - one stamp for the main focal stamp, sentiment and the background! I guess there's a reason that they group certain stamps together, but I usually tend to mix them up a bit instead, but for this card, I likes all three stamps so I went with it!

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Supplies:
Stamps: True Friend (SU)
Ink: Chocolate Chip (SU), Creamy Caramel (SU) for base layer flower
Cardstock: Copper Metallic (SU), Flat White (CRS), Chocolate Weave (Bazzill)
Embellishments: Chocolate 5/8" Satin Ribbon (Michaels), Clear Gem Brad (Dollarama)
Tools: Cuttlebug, Spots and Dots Embossing Folder

Shades of Blue are Back!

Ahhhhh, sweet shades of blue!!! I decided to resort to my old ways this morning and surrender to some shades of blue again...sorry guys, but you knew it wouldn't be long before I caved and used blue again! I got my fix...I feel so much better, now! lol :)

Seriously, this card almost gives me a feeling of calmness about me. Is that weird? Probably yes, but regardless, I'm happy with how it turned out! The design for this card brewed in my head late last night as I was laying in bed, unable to sleep, but too tired to make a card...so I had to put it into action this morning during some R & R stampin' time. :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Supplies:
Stamps: Nightingale (Inque Boutique), Butterfly (Anita's - Sugarloaf Inc)
Cardstock: Sky Blue (Bazzill), Navy-Turquoise (Bazzill)...can you tell that I don't know my Bazzill colours? lol :)
Patterned Paper: Bohemia - Bluebird "All Boy" Dragonfly/Blue (My Mind's Eye)
Tools: Scalloped Circle (Marvy Uchida), Circle Custom Cutting System (Creative Memories), 1/8" Dimensional Squares - for butterfly

Embrace Life Flowers

Mother Nature decided not to cooperate for my crafty night tonight. It ended up that only Kelly decided to brave the roads (since she lives near by) plus, some of the other girls were sick, so they couldn't make it. So, we're gonna reschedule for next week. Anyway, Kelly and I had a nice evening and got a bit of crafty time in and we also got to eat all the Tiramisu Spread ourselves with the help of my happy hubby! :) Well, there's also some for the kids tomorrow for a treat, too. I'm sure they'll be very pleased!

I only got one card done tonight...I was having some 'layering' issues...and my card took me all evening along with dealing with my youngest daughter that decided she didn't want to go to bed...all are sleeping soundly now and I think I'm gonna call it a night, too. I'll be back tomorrow with something else new to show you.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Nightingale Dove & Flourishes

I've made one more card for the colour challenge within our local group of stampin' friends. Everyone is coming over to my place tonight and we're gonna draw names and then we get to keep the creation of the person who's name we drew - just a little something fun to do. I'm really looking forward to all the girls coming over and Jim and I are also planning something special for our girls. They love to go camping, so we're gonna set up the tent downstairs in our rec room that they can camp out in while Mum has her friends over upstairs!

The girls used to sleep right through my stampin' gatherings...even with all our carrying on! I remember one night, shortly after we moved in to our house, I got the kids to sleep and I then had 11 friends come over to stamp, we laughed and weren't quiet by any means. Even the doorbell didn't wake the up! The kids slept through the whole thing and after everyone left, I cleaned everything up and the kids had no idea that I had anyone over! ...Sneaky Mum and her secret stampin' nights! lol :)

But, recently they keep waking up. We own a bungalow and their bedrooms are just off the dining room so I guess it's to be expected now. I kinda miss the style of our old house where the bedrooms were upstairs from my dining room where my friends and I used to stamp. Anyway, ya make due with what you've got...there's a lot of things that I enjoy more about the house that we're in now, so I guess it's a good trade off! lol :) Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that the girls decide to settle down and go to sleep early! :)

Update: I actually wrote this last night, but didn't post it. I was gonna wait to show everyone my card tonight, but I made another one this morning that I'm gonna use as the colour challenge card, so I'll wait to post that one next week when we all get together.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)
