Halloween Treat Boxes

My youngest daughter has her little Halloween party tomorrow morning at pre-school, so I thought I'd make up a little treat for each of her teachers. I decided to have some more fun with the origami boxes from the other night that I was playing with. I changed the size this time to be a bit smaller box. The other one called for an 11 1/2" x 11 1/2" sheet of patterned paper for the top of the box and an 11" x 11" sheet of patterned paper for the bottom of the box. For mine, I used cardstock this time, with the top piece measuring 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" and the bottom 8" x 8". A cute size for little goodies. The finished box ends up being 3" x 3" x 1.5" high. Her box measured 4" x 4" x 2" high.

Oh, I can only imagine the state that my daughter is going to be in come noon time tomorrow after all that candy...she only just went to sleep a half hour ago and it's 10:45 pm here! She fell asleep on the way home this afternoon from picking my hubby up at work and I carried her inside and she continued to sleep on the couch for another hour and a half. That's very unlike her, as she doesn't nap anymore. I tried to wake her up for supper and she said she wanted to keep sleeping and eat later, so we all ate and shortly after we finished eating she woke up. Well, it's like she was a new person. I think she even grew, you know when they wake up sometimes and they just look different. Apparently, the sleep did her a world of good cause she acted like a child on Speed! Holy Cow the energy! lol :) I feel kinda bad, Jim and I were trying to contain our laughter, but I'm glad she's feeling better. This seems to be the routine, if she ever does nap in the afternoon, she doesn't want to go to bed at a decent hour...10 pm is way too late for a soon-to-be 4 year to go to bed! But, she's never woke up with this 'Speed-like' behavior before. It was really quite funny, she just kept bringing me out things to show me and doing all these crazy things and putting on little acts to entertain me. Anyway, I just hope she sleeps the night now and isn't too cranky come morning. Then, she's gonna get filled full of sugar, that should be a good show, indeed! lol :)

Well, I think I will indulge in a good night's sleep myself! Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Altered Pocket Day Planner

I altered this pocket day planner to take over to my friend, Paulina. She had a get together at her new home tonight, so I took it over with me. We Mum's have to stick together in an attempt to keep each other organized, you know! lol :) Seriously, she had saw the one that I made for myself and liked it and asked if I would make her one. She wanted a girly looking one and this is what I came up with. I really like this patterned paper and thought it would fit the bill with a little bling. :) You can't really see in the pic, but the flowers have glitter on them and the gel pens I used to colour in the little flower in the 'Delight in Life flower' are sparkler pens to add a touch of glitter, too.

Supplies: Pocket Size Day Planner with plastic sleeve cover (Dollar Store...Did you think I would buy them anywhere else? lol :) Yes, I love the Dollar stores!
Patterned Paper: Posies Glitter Print - Denim Blue Posies (DCWV)

Card Stock: Perfect Plum, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue (SU)
Ink: Perfect Plum (SU)
Gel Roller Pens: Hi-Jell Sparklers - Pink, Purple and Green (Merangue)

Stamps: Delight in Life (SU)
Ribbon: Spring Paisley (Michaels)
Tools: Creative Memories Oval Cutting System, double-sided tape to adhere the ribbon to the patterned paper (pp) and the pp to the day planner.

An Idea for Halloween Treat Bags

I thought these were just too cute for anything! Perhaps a lot of you have seen these before, but this is the first time I've seen this done, so I thought that I'd share the idea, in case anyone is looking for ideas for a school function or a child's playgroup party, etc. These were sold at Alex's Halloween party at school last night for $1 per baggie. A good little fundraiser for them since as soon as one was sold...Every kid there wanted one! lol :) Neat idea to use the candy corn at the end of the finger for the fingernail.

The girls had so much fun and it was fun for Jim and I to see all the little ones dressed up so cute. There were a lot of babies and toddlers there as it was a family dance and they were by far the cutest! There was one little girl, I would say about 18 months old and she was dressed up in a little black dress for a kinda witch , I guess, and she was dancing up a storm, it was just too darn cute for words! :)

I made up this little origami box and stamped the labels for the Hershey Nugget chocolates to give away as one of the prizes at the dance...after all, what kid doesn't like chocolate and then they have a cute little box afterwards to keep little things in. :) You can find a great tutorial for these cute origami boxes here. Just scroll down to the tutorial on Oct. 6th. I haven't had a chance to check out all her work yet, but it looks like I might possibly need to get an extra large cup of coffee and it'll be a good place to spend some time, for sure! lol :)

CCE from Judy

Another gorgeous CCE (Canadian Card Exchange) card arrived in my mail box yesterday. This card was made by Judy Showers. I love the Autumn theme to it, she did a VersaMark Resist technique on the glossy card stock and the colours are beautiful. I really like the beeswax technique that she used on the Emily Bronte quote - very nice! Thanks again, so much for sharing your art with me, Judy! :)

CCE cards from Erika and Madge

I recently received these beautiful cards in the mail as part of the Canadian Card Exchange (CCE) and the gals gave me permission to post their cards for others to enjoy.

This beautiful card was made by Erika Friesen, straight after my Cuttlebug lovin' heart! lol :) I also really like the green colour that she used and the stamp set. Very elegant! Thanks so much, Erika! :)

This next beautiful card was made by Madge Haycock. The green and blues are so pretty together. Madge used Twinkling H2O's to colour in her flowers - gorgeous job! Thanks so much, Madge! :)

Think Pink Gate Card

I finally got a chance to play with my Think Pink set. I'm not overly happy with the way this card turned out. I usually shy away from colouring in images... mostly sticking with solid stamps, so I don't have to colour them in. But, not much choice with this one. lol :) I tried to cheat and use some cheap markers, but it didn't turn out well. I really need to get something decent to work with. I would love to get all the watercolour crayons that SU offers, they're wonderful, but they're also quite pricey. Lately, I've been seeing a lot about the Copic markers, and I'm thinking I'd like to take that route...we'll see.

This is a basic gate card but I wanted to add a little weight so that the gate doors would stay closed if the card was laying flat. So, I thought about it for a few minutes and I made this little ribbon tab closure. I attached the ribbon underneath the image square and fed it up through the heart and then back down through the heart and attached more double-sided tape to hold it in place. Then, I added a wee little bit of adhesive to hold the tip of the heart down to the image square. Clear as mud? Here's another pic to show you better... lol :)
Supplies:
Stamps: Think Pink (MFT- My Favorite Things), Linen background (SU)
Cardstock: Rose Weave (Bazzill), Pink, Green, White (The Paper Company)
Ink: Black (StazOn), Black (SU), VersaMark
Embellishments: Wine Velvet Ribbon (Dashes, Dots and Checks - Michaels), Pewter Heart from Wedding Theme Set (Dollarama)

Another Garden Whimsy Tent Topper card

My 6 year old daughter, Alexandria came home for lunch today all excited that they have a new little girl in their class today. She wanted to make her a card to welcome her to the class! Believe it or not, it was her idea...I wonder where she gets these ideas? I don't know anyone who likes to make cards! lol :)

So we quickly got lunch together, ate and ran downstairs and made a marathon card. She wanted to use the same layout that I used for a card that I made for my friend, Kelly last week for her birthday. I just changed the colours a bit and changed the saying from Celebrate to Friendship. So, it went together pretty quickly. I hope she likes it and that she feels welcomed. She has a wonderful teacher and I'm sure she'll enjoy it her class.

Supplies:
Stamps: Garden Whimsy (SU), 'Friendship' from Wonderful Words (SU)

Ink: Perfect Plum (SU)

Cardstock: Bashful Blue (SU), Celery (Bazzill)

Patterned Paper: Posies Glitter Print (DCWV)
Tools:
Giga and Mega Sized Scalloped Circle Clever Lever Punches (Marvy Uchida), Scalloped Edge Guide (handmade by me), dimensional squares.

Well, I got busy yesterday painting my downstairs bathroom, stairwell and hallway, now I have to put everything back to rights. I was just too tired last night to do it, well, I wanted to make sure the paint was fully dry before I started to hang things back up on the walls. That's my excuse and I'm stickin' with it! lol :)

Alexandria is going to 'Buddy Night' at Sparks tonight. In case you're not familiar with Sparks, this is the level before Brownies in Girl Guides. I was meaning to sign her up, but we were all sick and I didn't make it over for sign up night. Then, a friend at school invited her to come tonight, so I have to get supper ready early so that we can leave here before 6 pm to get over there in time. I'm sure she'll have tonnes of fun. So, on that note, I should get busy with deciding what to have for supper...any ideas?

Cuttlebug'd Snowflakes N' Bling

I made four of these cards tonight for a card exchange that I participate in. I wanted to try out my snowflakes Cuttlebug folder and paired it with a beautiful blue tone and white and I added in a bit of Swarovski bling to finish them off. I'm quite happy with how this set of cards turned out, but I did have a few issues with the layers, trying to get them all even. I always seem to have this problem when I try to cheat and mass-produce my cards. I always think it will be easier than doing 4 different styles, but in the end, I'm not sure about that. With all the fussing, I think it would almost be easier to do 4 different cards. I'm finally starting to get caught up in some of my projects, although I still have a few on my plate. There really needs to be more time in the day for creating! Anyone game to devise a plan to allow for more hours in the day? lol :)

Well, since I can't bank on that one, I think I'll call it a day! Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Supplies:
Stamps: The Snowflake Spot (SU)
Patterned Paper: Holiday Thyme Designer Series Paper (SU)
Cardstock: Blue (Bazzill), White (The Paper Company)
Ink: Encore Ultimate Metallic Silver (SU)
Embellishments: Swarovski Crystals - Flat Back (Crystal Fire)
Tools: Cuttlebug with Snowflake Embossing Folder, Round Tab Punch (SU), Heat Tool and Needle Nose Pliers

My First CTMH Party

I went to my first CTMH (Close to My Heart) party tonight. It was hosted by my friend, Kim. We had a great night (as always) and lots of goodies to drool over for sure. They have some really nice stamps sets and patterned paper. I ended up ordering their recipe card kit to use with a lunch tin that I altered a bit ago to use for recipes. I'm quite excited about them arriving so I can copy over all my favorite recipes.

This is the card that we made tonight. It was certainly an inkyfingers night as I wasn't used to the way the ink pads swivel open and I just noticed that I even have ink midway up my forearm! lol :) These were some pretty sets that we played with. Love the flourishes and the snowflake is really nice. On the inside of the card I stamped, 'A Very Merry Christmas.'

This is the envelop that I stamped to go with the Xmas card that we made and the red gift tag is one that we made tonight, as well. A quick little project to show us how slick the glue pen worked with glitter. Isn't he a cute little snowman? :)

Kim made two pies for us for a treat. I tried the lemon meringue and it was to die for! Most yummy! It was even guilt free as it was made with artificial sweetener, egg whites and low fat graham wafer crumbs. She also made a coconut cream pie (evil woman that she is!), but I thought I had better behave and just stick with the lemon meringue. I think I made a good choice. Thanks so much for having us over, Kim! I had a great time and it was great to see everyone again. Always get a hoot out of you, Val! Miss Potty Mouth! lol :)

Well, this sleepy-eyed gal needs to go get some rest. I'll be back tomorrow after I've played a bit. :)

Think Pink

I recently got this 3" x 4" mini clear stamp set made by My Favorite Things. It's called 'Think Pink' in support of Breast Cancer awareness. This is a cause that is very dear to my heart as many of my aunts and cousins are breast cancer survivors. Sadly, it has also taken the lives of 2 of my young friends in their early 30's. We need to raise awareness so that we can find a cure. It's not right to see people so young being affected by this or anyone for that matter. Let's do all we can to prevent this from happening in the future. For more information, click here.

Now, I need to think about a way to use these stamps to make a bit of a difference. I'm thinking perhaps a bit of a 'Think Pink' card fundraiser at my daughter's school. I'll let ya know what I come up with. :)

Garden Whimsy Tent Topper Card

I got a chance to play a bit this morning and made this 'tent topper' card. I think that's what they're called. They look cute when they're sitting on a shelf or table. I got this paper a while back from Michaels and I've been wanting to use it for something special. It's so pretty. Well, when I got this new stamp set, Garden Whimsy, I knew it would be exactly what I was looking for! I really like the way the card came together with all the scallops and I just love the little butterfly. It's so cute!

This card is for a friend of mine. It's her birthday today, Happy Birthday, Kelly! We're heading out tonight to celebrate with a bunch of friends at the Himachi House, a local sushi restaurant. Should be a lot of fun! I can't wait! :)

Thanks for stoppin' by!

Supplies: Stamps: Garden Whimsy (SU), 'Celebrate' from Wonderful Words (SU)
Ink: Perfect Plum (SU)
Cardstock: Perfect Plum (SU), Mellow Moss (Bazzill)
Patterned Paper: Posies Glitter Print (DCWV)

New SU Goodies

Yippee, new stampin' goodies! My SU Demo dropped them off to me Monday night. I got a chance to start playing with the Garden Whimsy set this morning. What a cute set! They've got some gorgeous new colours of ink and cardstock and some beautiful patterned paper. I definitely feel some 'altered projects' in my future... lol :)

Here's what I got in my order.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :) I must go play now! lol :)

Alexandria's Birthday Cards

I nearly forgot to post the beautiful handmade birthday cards that my daughter received for her birthday from my friends, whom I've recruited into the cardmaking world...lol :) Thanks so much to all of you for making her day by coming to celebrate and by taking the time to make her a card. She just loves them all! She also got her own stamp set for her birthday and has already started to make cards! Like Mother, Like Daughter! lol :)

This beautiful card was sent from my best friend, Brandy Fink, it arrived today in the mail all the way from Edmonton, AB. We used to live in Trenton, ON together, but we got posted home to Halifax last year and she got posted to Edmonton this year.

This sweet card was done by Catherine Levy. These little dancers are just too cute. She had a matching gift bag and Alexandria has deemed it so pretty it is now her precious new stuffed puppy's bed. lol :) Little girls are so funny!

This beautiful card was done by Kelly Eelhart. I've recently learned that Kelly bought this stamp especially for this occasion! You're so sweet, Kelly! She loves this one and the glitter is gorgeous!

This pretty card was done my my dear friend, Michele Dionne. Michele is moving soon to another province...I don't know what I'm gonna do! I've known her for about 10 years now and my girls just adore her! She's just gonna have to come back to visit and to stamp with us! lol :)
Thanks so much girls, you're the best! :) Alexandria loves all your cards and so do I! I really appreciate them all! Thanks so much again for coming to celebrate her special day.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Alexandria's 6th Birthday

I'm back! Whew, that week flew by fast! I just realized that I haven't posted anything since Tuesday. I've been busy with getting things ready for my oldest daughter's 6th birthday, which was this afternoon. I think the party went over well, the kids all got along well...except for a few costume wars...lol...but, other than that I think they all had a lot of fun playing together.
Alexandria chose to have a butterfly birthday theme this year. She loves butterflies. So, I went into crafty action...butterfly style!

This is the cake that made for her. I made the chocolate cake from scratch and iced it up. The bright colours are actually fruit roll ups by Betty Crocker and jelly tots for the decorations.
Here's the fruit roll up and jelly tots in their packages...in case you're not familiar with these products.

These are the 20 butterflies that I made as decorations for the walls. The kids loved them. My girls took them all down tonight before bedtime and we stuck them all together so I could take a picture, then we stuck them all to their bedroom ceilings. I have to admit they look really pretty. They want me to make more for them so they can add to their ceilings...more work...lol...I might even make some for my own ceiling. Kinda like my little oasis...Yeah, I'll probably just stick with making them more. :)
I printed them off a website that I found onto plain photocopy paper. Then, I glued them onto white cardstock. I let them dry well overnight and then I cut them all out. Yup, that was a lot of cutting for one night. Next to my light switch, you can see how big some of them are. I used tape to stick them to the walls at the back of their bodies and pulled the wings out so they looked like they were really flying.

And, these are the treat bags that I made for the 10 kids. I used my Magenta butterfly /dragonfly and the 'For You' is from a Studio G set form Michaels. I folded the dark pink cardstock to make a flap. Layered on a piece of lighter pink cs and them stapled these to the zip lock sandwich bags. I stamped the self-adhesive labels and them stuck them on top to cover up the staple on the front. Not my best work by far...I was so tired last night when I finally got around to making them up after I made the cake. I kinda gave up on the idea of doing a perfect job by any means and figured that the kids would likely be ripping into so fast to get to the candy that it didn't even matter. Terrible, eh! I try to do a better job for Natalia's upcoming birthday in 4 weeks. :)
OK, it's been a long day and I need to go to bed. Have a great weekend and I'll be back soon with more crafty projects.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Thanksgiving NB Vacation

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Long Weekend and got to have lots of turkey and pumpkin pie...I know I did!!! lol :) Yummo!

We had a wonderful time up in New Brunswick at my hubby's parents place. The trees on the way up and back were absolutely gorgeous! So many bright red colours the trees looked as if they were on fire! Just amazing. This truly is my favourite time of the year!

This is a pic looking down the Miramichi River from the the side of Jim's parents place. What a gorgeous place! Look at those colours! :)
On Saturday, Alexandria got to have a little birthday celebration on her actual 6th birthday and we'll be having her party here this Saturday.
Jim and I were able to fly the coup (leaving the kiddies with their grandparents) for the afternoon on Sunday on our Anniversary. We had a nice afternoon and got to visit some friends.
Look...I'm a Moose! This is how one spends their Anniversary when the kids aren't around! ...Pretending that we're not rednecks!!! LOL :)

This is a pic of a little Thanksgiving centrepiece that Alexandria made in Sunday School. Isn't it nice? I was so impressed! I'm so proud...gettin' crafty just like her Mama! Yeah, Jim is just rolling his eyes! lol :)
This is what we woke up to on Monday morning. A wonderful way to start Thanksgiving Monday! The most beautiful sunrise! Couldn't ask for a better way to start the day! :)

Anniversary Gift from Catherine

My dear friend, Catherine, gave me this lovely card and stationary folder gift set today for my anniversary on Sunday. How sweet is she? Thanks so much, Catherine! The cards are gorgeous and I love the stationary folder. Very pretty! :) I also really like how you used the flowers as the latch on the Joy-Fold card. Great idea! I'm gonna have to CASE that one in the future! lol :)

This is the Joy-Fold Anniversary card that she made for Jim and me. Note the flower closure. Neat idea, eh? :)

This is the outside of the Stationary Folder that she made for me.

This shows the Stationary Folder opened.

These are the four cards in the set. I'm lovin' that Jolies Fleurs set from Lizzy Anne Designs! Gotta get my hands on a set! lol :)

Catherine teased me that she had to keep on the good side of me, seeing that I'm her future in-law! You see, her son and my daughter attended Pre-School together last year and they got engaged at the beginning of the year and it's stuck! Apparently, they're very serious about the whole thing! Her son has even been making wedding invitations! It's so cute! Young love! lol :)

I'm gonna leave you with a couple of our wedding pics from 12 years ago. Check out those huge glasses! lol :)

Oct. 7, 1995.
The Happy Couple! Gotta love a man in uniform! :)

Princess for a Day! :)
Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. For all those here in Canada, have a nice Thanksgiving, eat lots of ham or turkey and a piece of pumpkin pie for me! lol :)

Oh Happy Day!

Happy Anniversary to me,
Happy Anniversary to me,
Happy Anniversary to me-eeeee,
Happy Anniversary to me!

LOL! :) I went out for coffee this morning with my friend, Kim and afterwards we swung by our local stamp store (Carousel Rubber Stamps for all the local gals) and we were thrilled to find some awesome new stamps they've got in from See d's! I could hardly contain my excitement! They're absolutely beautiful! I love the large plate of unmounted flourishes, for get this...... only $13.95! Shut Up!!! No, really I'm serious! Normally, they're about twice that much! Can you feel my excitement now!

To give you an idea what size these sets are, the size of the plate for the large stamp set (below) is 5 1/4" x 9." The name of the set that I got here is called "Savoir Faire."

Ok, it gets better... now Dejah (the store owner) shows us some smaller See d's sets, rubber again, oh, I'm drooling at this point...for get this.....only $1.95 each! I tried to ration my spending and only bought one large set and 4 small ones. I will call this an anniversary gift for myself for Sunday! Do ya think my Hubby will go for it? Now, I just have to try my best to stay away from there for a bit or I might go altogether crazy! Terrible how one gets so excited over stamps, isn't it? lol :)

They have tonnes of the little sets out that are all different themes. The plate size of these smaller stamp sets (below) are approximately 2 1/2" x 3."

Ok, now RUN to go get some of your own! I can't wait to play with mine...better wait til after Sunday, though, in case Jim wants to get technical and wrap them up for me! lol :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)
