Let it Snow Stamp Winnings

Another happy mail day...I received a 'Let it Snow' CTMH stamp set yesterday from Kerry Davis for some blog candy that I won on her blog. Thanks again so much, Kerry! :) I'm gonna have lots of fun playing with them. Kerry has some wonderful ideas and does beautiful work. Pop on over and check out her site (the link's above), if you haven't already.

I've decided with the way my cards went this year, leaving them til the last minute to finish, that has got to change. I vow that next year, starting in January, each month I'm going to do 6 cards so by the end of November, that will give me 66 cards all ready to send out....early! Wish me luck on that! lol :) I just think it will take the stress out of trying to get them all done at once.

Well, I have a lot of running around to do today, then I have to come home and make some Almond Orange Biscotti for my FIL before I head to work tonight. We leave first thing in the morning for New Brunswick for a few days to head up to Jim's folk's place to celebrate the holidays with them.

I'll be without an Internet connection for a few days, so I'll wish you all a Happy New Year now. Hope everyone has a safe and happy celebration.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

P.S. My camera isn't charged, so I just quickly found this photo on web to show you of the stamps that I won. So, these aren't my actual stamps, but it's the same stamp set. :)

Having a great holiday

We're back in town for a few days, then we'll be heading up to Jim's folks place in New Brunswick for a few days, as well, over New Year's. We've had a great Xmas holiday so far. Got to spend some time with my family, have a wonderful Xmas dinner, eat lots of yummy goodies, that I don't normally eat and we got to play a good ol' game of Crockinol. Dad kicked our butt, as per usual! I think I came in last...man my aim is terrible! lol :) We always seem to play this old fashioned game over the holidays and have a hoot with it. The girls got tonnes of stuff and are very happy with what they got. Santa found me, as well and brought me some clothes, a new cell phone, some SU goodies - new rubbah and beautiful patterned paper. :)

I wanted to share a pic of me with two of my brothers. Steven is on the far left and Hubert is sitting next to me. My middle brother is in Calgary this year, too bad he couldn't have been here. Hopefully next year he'll be able to get home. I love my brother's dearly, being the youngest sibling and the only girl, they've always looked out for me! :) I couldn't ask for better brothers. They're kind hearted, have a great sense of humour and would do anything for you. Hubert, especially, always has me on the floor laughing. He's such a blast to spend time with! My the end of my visit, my ribs hurt from laughing so much! lol :)

Well, Jim's duty on the ship today, so I've been having a crafty day here with the girls. I've made a couple more altered tins, and the girls and I made a bunch of shrinky dink fridge magnets. A fun little craft, brings back memories of when I was a kid. Some things seem to stick around for years, eh? Gotta go cook supper now and get the girls off to bed, then I have more altered Xmas frames to make tonight, they're fun to make and make a nice gift, I think. :)

Hope everyone is having a great holiday, I'll check back in soon! Until then, take care!

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Merry Christmas to All, and to all a Good Night

I'm just heading off to bed after getting all the gifts wrapped and everything ready for tomorrow morning. The girls were so excited tonight, but they swiftly went to sleep after story time, since they wanted to make sure that they were sleeping before Santa arrived...so he wouldn't bypass them! lol :)

I wanted to share another altered frame that I made, this one is for my Mum to go with her Xmas gift. We'll be heading to my parents house after we open presents here in the morning. I'm really looking forward to seeing all my family again, it's been a while since we've all got together at once. We always have a great time carrying on and that's what's most important, to spend time with family...and if we have to throw in a turkey dinner and pumpkin pie and desserts in there, so be it! LOL :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and you're all able to spend it with your loved ones. May you all have safe travels to where ever you head to over the holidays. Hope Santa finds you all! I'll be back in a couple of days. Take care!

Altered Holiday Frame

I made this altered holiday frame using an idea from Amy Sheffer's blog, Pickled Paper Designs. You can see the beautiful frame that she made by checking out this link. I just discovered Amy's blog and she does some gorgeous work! I know I'll be heading back to see what new ideas she comes up with! :)

I wanted to make a gift for a friend of mine for Xmas, and this is my version. I used a solid oak picture frame with an added bit of gold ribbon woven among the cut out patterned squares. I really like this Holiday DSP from last year's SU line. I really wish I could get some more...why do we never buy enough of the stuff we really like...but so many other things that never seem to get used and just take up room in our craft areas? If anyone knows, please let me know your secret! lol :)

I took this quick pic before I delivered this gift today, but I didn't check the quality of the pic beforehand. Oops, it isn't the best quality pic...it looks dull here, but it's brighter in person.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Supplies:
solid oak wall mount picture frame (5" x 7")
Cardstock: Cream (Loomis Art Supplies) for background and stamped square
Patterned Paper: 2006 Holiday double-sided Designer Series Paper
Stamps: HollyDoodles (See d's - Inque Boutique)
Embellishments: 1/8" gold ribbon (from RAK from Jeannie Cornelsen - Thanks again, Jeannie!)

Xmas cards from Val and Angel

I received 2 more gorgeous Xmas cards in the mail yesterday, have I mentioned how much I enjoy all the happy mail that comes this time of year?! lol :) It's such a wonderful treat to go to the mailbox and find those fancy decorated envies with a beautiful card inside. Val sent her card in a clear envie so all the postal staff could enjoy it, too! I love that idea! :)

This first Xmas card is by Valerie Wilson. What a gorgeous card! I have this dove stamp from See d's - Inque Boutique, it's so beautiful with the flourishes. Val has such a good heart and is a total hoot to stamp with. We seem to have a hard time coordinating our schedules, but when we get together to play, we have great time with lots of carrying on. I love Val's sense of humour! Val also always shows me a couple of fun, new-to-me techniques. Thanks for all your inspiration, Val! Luv ya! :)

This second Xmas card is also a thank you card from Angel Wilde, for some blog candy that I sent out to her recently. What a pretty card in beautiful blue tones. I love the paper piercing and the little stamps. Just beautiful. Thanks so much for the card, Angel and for thinking of me! :)You've gotta see this super cute hammer, too, that a friend of Angel's gave her! What a great idea for us crafty types instead of having to use a plain ol' hammer! lol :) You can see a pic on Angel's blog, here's the link, check it out! :)

Oh, I thought I'd add this funny pic of my kitty, Lynux from last night. I caught her sitting on the rug in front of me hugging this flower, how cute is that! Jim quickly snapped this pic before she moved.
Well, I have a few things to do this afternoon before I go in to work for the evening. I hope it's as crazy busy as it was last night, the time went by so fast...I'd think to myself, well, that's probably another hour down, and I'd look at my watch and 3 hours had gone by! Gotta love that! :) Two more shifts and I'm off for 5 days for Xmas holidays. Yah! :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Inquiring minds need to know...

Oops...I forgot to add pics of the contents of my tins from the previous post and apparently inquiring minds need to see pics of my the contents of my tins! Can't get anything past you all, eh? lol :)

Here's another set that I made today for a friend of mine. Another large tin filled with chocolates and a small matching tin with a lavender scented candle inside. I'm having a lot of fun altering these tins...I bought a ton of these larger tins at a place called 'Princess Auto' in our local Industrial Park. It's a heavy duty hardware store...a man's paradise. I get in there, and it's a bit overwhelming, but I heard that they had these tins on sale...they're normally $4.99 each, but they were on sale $1.88 a tin! A screamin' deal for an altering fool such as myself! lol :) The smaller tins came from a local Dollar Store, with the candle inside them...no, I wasn't crafty enough to make the candle, too! lol :)

Here are the two altered tins

Here's the inside view of the assorted Xmas Chocolates and the lavender candle
Here are tops of the lids

Altered Xmas Tins

These are some Xmas tins that I altered and filled with chocolates for my daughters teachers. I really couldn't ask for better teachers for my girls, they can't wait to get to school to see their teachers and when they come home, they always have such kind things to say about them, with wonderful stories from that day. You can tell they truly care for them, it's such a comfort to know that they're having a good day and learning from such a wonderful group of people.

These are metal tins, approximately 4 1/2" tall by 3" wide with see-thru glass inserts in the lids. The lids that I altered follow the tins below, however I made two with the olive cardstock and 2 with the blue stock, which is why there are only 3 pictured and there are 5 tins.
Supplies:
Metal storage tins with see-thru glass lids (Princess Auto)
Embellishments: Olive Green grosgrain ribbon, Blue and Burgundy satin ribbon
Stamps: Holiday Medallion stamp (See d's)
Cardstock: Bashful Blue (SU), Artichoke Flat (Carousel Rubber Stamps), Cream (Loomis Art Supplies)
Ink: Blue Bayou, Old Olive and Cranberry Crisp (SU),
Patterned Paper: 2006 Holiday double-sided Designer Series Paper (SU), Snowflake Textured Paper (Imagine That - Jacqueline Addison)

Alex's Gingerbread House

Oh my, yesterday was a busy day...I ran from 6 AM to midnight. We got up in the morning earlier than normal and went to Alexandria's school for a family breakfast, from there we ran to take Natalia to her pre-school. Then, off to Zellers to grab a few more stocking stuffers and to the hair salon to get my hair trimmed for the holidays. Off to Superstore for a screamin' deal on children's movies...$7.99 for Happy Feet, my kids favorite movie, which I had to replace since they scratched the heck out of their original copy...all movies are locked up from now on!!! lol :) Then, it was time to pick Alexandria back up at school, they had their Santa's Gift Mart this morning, so they were able to buy gifts for all their family members from items that all the parents donated to the school. What a fun event for the kids to partake in. I can hardly contain my excitement to see all the gifts she bought! They come home wrapped, so that will be my one surprise come Xmas morning when we get to open up those gifts. She already told us that she bought her grandfather a doll that comes with a hamburger and fries! I can hardly wait to see the look on his face when he opens it! I'm sure it'll be a puzzled look! LOL :) I'm sure there was a hidden agenda in there that she will be able to play with it when she goes to Grampie's house to visit! Oh well, he'll be tickled pink that she thought of him anyway.
Ok, so now it was time to get lunch for everyone and get Alexandria back to school. Home to clean the house and run back out to do more errands. She made the gingerbread house(above) this afternoon. Isn't it sweet! They had so much fun making them. Pick Alexandria back up at school, run some more, make supper, go back out to get more stuff that we probably didn't need in the first place, see Xmas lights, and home to put the girls to bed. Chat with people on the phone that have been trying to get in touch with me all day...lol...do dishes, tidy the rec room, laundry, post blog entries, relax watching a sappy chick flick, go to bed. Then, I proceed to call it a day at midnight and go to bed, but I can't get to sleep until well after 1 AM, cause my darn brain won't shut down cause I'm thinkin' about all the stuff I have to do today! Ya gotta love being a woman! Can I have a day off for Xmas, pretty please! I'm so tired! OK, that's my sympathy trip for today! lol :)

Enabler Alert

I took a trip out to Michael's this afternoon to get some more Terrifically Tacky Tape for some altered projects that I have on the go and I noticed some new Studio G stamp sets that they had. So, I treated myself to 4 sets. I think I was quite restrained and showed a lot of will-power! I could have bought a lot more, but I thought I better be good...seeing as it's close to Xmas! lol :) They were cute sets, though. I really like the little princess dress, the shoes, the ring, and the pregnant lady. Those are my favourite stamps, I'm sure I'll get a chance to use those in the new year.

Well, gotta get up early in the morning, we have a family breakfast to go to at my daughter's school. It starts at 7:30 AM, so I better call it a day. I hope to have some more Xmas cards finished tomorrow to show you.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Xmas cards from Brandy and Tracy

Some more beautiful cards have blessed my mailbox! I love Christmas and all the happy mail that comes with it!! lol :)
The first one is from my dear friend, Brandy Fink. Both our families were posted to Trenton, ON, where we met, and last year we got posted back home to the Maritimes and she just got posted to Edmonton, AB this year. I miss her so much. We talk on the phone from time to time, but it's not the same as being able to see each other nearly everyday for playdates with our kids and the times we used to go out for coffee in the evenings just to chat and have 'big people' chats without the kids. I miss that a lot. One of these days I'm gonna go visit her in Alberta, and we can spend some nice time together again. Who knows, maybe they'll get posted down to the Maritimes in a few years...that sure would be nice! Anyway, Brandy and I got into stampin' together in Trenton and she made me this beautiful card. I love the clear embossing on the pointsettias and the Purely Pomegranate colour - it's one of my favourite colours lately. A gorgeous card!

This second one is from my friend, Tracy Houghton. Tracy and I met through CST (Canadian Stamp Talk) and chat back and forth quick regularly. She's another sweetheart and I find I have a lot in common with her. We both have 2 girls and coincidentally are the same age, too. I enjoy seeing Tracy's work, they're always happy cards and projects and truly inspiring. This is a really sweet card. I love the Canadian LumberJack Moose wearing snow shoes - too cute!

Thanks so much to both Brandy and Tracy for thinking of me. I love both the cards, they're proudly hung with the rest of my cards. :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Window cards

I made 3 cards tonight for a few of my family members. Recently, my cousin lost his wife suddenly, so one sympathy card is for him and another for my Aunt for the loss of her Daughter-in-Law, whom she thought so much of. I only met my cousin's wife once at a family reunion, but we chatted for a long time and she was so kind and sweet. She was only in her early 50's, still so much life ahead of her. So sad. I feel so sorry for my cousin, to have lost his soul mate, especially at Xmas. My heart goes out to him. May she be at peace.

The third card is for another one of my Aunts, who just lost her husband recently, as well. He lead a full life, being in his 90's. But, I still wanted to let my Aunt know that I was thinking of her during this difficult time.

So, I took a break from doing Xmas cards for some more important cards for my family. I'm still terribly behind in my Xmas cards, but they'll get done in time.

Ok, gotta go get some rest. Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

(I'll update tomorrow with all the supplies that I used)

Xmas card and Gift from Catherine

I got home from work last night to a wonderful treat from my friend, Catherine Levy. She brought over this sweet snowman card and some wonderful goodies. I love the tin that she decorated, I've purchased some of these tins, as well, to alter for Xmas gifts. You'll have to excuse the fact that I took the pic after we (Jim, the girls and me) all had several Xmas M & M's already...the can was full to the top!!! lol :)

She also brought over a big Xmas container full of yummy muffins. Jim is always teasing her telling her that if she wants to come over she has to bring muffins or if she calls, he tells her, it'll cost ya some muffins...cause they're so good! These ones were no exception to the norm...yummy as always, Catherine! Thanks again so much!

Well, I'm heading off to cook supper now and to sneak a few more M & M's! lol :)

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Xmas cards from Cathlyn and Susan

I feel bad that I still don't have anything of my own to post, I've just been so busy with work and the kids that I haven't had any time at all to make cards. I'm starting to go through some serious withdrawal! lol :) For my Xmas gift this year, would it be fair to ask Santa to bring more more time in the day for crafty time? :)

I received 2 more wonderful Xmas cards in yesterday's mail. They were such a nice surprise when I got off work yesterday after a tiring shift. I was supposed to be off today to relax and get my own Xmas cards done...but my work just called and they really need me to go in today from 3 - 11 PM, so no cards for me today, I guess. I think I'm destined to be behind this year. I just don't have the time for it. So much to do and so little time! :(

Anyway, I wanted to share these cards, this first one is from Cathlyn Atkins. I love the snowman sticker that Cathyln used and the Cuttlebug background is great along with the colours that she chose. I love it! Thanks so much, Cathlyn! :)
This second one is from Susan MacDonald. These are some cute little presents- love the colours! I really like the festive patterned paper, too. I'm such a sucker for pretty papers! lol :) Thanks so much, Susan! :)
I've met both these gals online through card swaps, a couple of great girls, and fun to exchange cards with. It was so sweet of you both to think of me at Xmas, thanks so much for making my day with a couple of happy cards! I love happy mail!

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

RAK from Catherine

I just remembered that I forgot to post this a few days ago...oops! My friend, Catherine Levy came over to babysit for me while I was at work and she came bearing gifts! You've gotta love that! lol :) A cute little Studio G unmounted birthday wishes set and a Merry Christmas stamp. I'm sure I'll get lots of use out of both of these, but especially the Merry Christmas stamp right now. I really like the font that they used, it's not overly simple or overly elegant, either. I find a lot of stamps are either one or the other, not really in between, so I like this one. Thanks again, so much, Catherine! You're such a sweetheart! :)

Well, I have to go make supper before I head out to work in a little bit. Wish me luck driving tonight, apparently the roads are a nightmare...but, I'll give myself lots of time to get there and take the corners slow to I don't slide on the ice.

Hope everyone has a great evening, thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

One last post for now...lol...thought while I had a couple more minutes, I'd share a couple of pics of the girls on Sunday all ready to head out to the Children's Xmas Party at my work. They had so much fun, they got to have pizza and chips and cupcakes and then got to sit on Santa's knee and they each even received a wonderful present courtesy of my work! They had a great time... even though it was a woman dressed up as Santa! Not sure what was up with that...maybe none of the guys were available. lol :) After we left the party, my oldest daughter asked me if that was really Santa. I didn't have the heart to say, Yes, so I told her that Santa is very busy at Xmas and that some of the Santa's that we see around are really just Santa's helpers. She replied, "Oh, I thought so, cause Santa had a girls voice!" Can't get anything past her! LOL :)

Afterwards, we swung by the mall and saw the 'real' Santa to which the girls were absolutely thrilled and this huge Frosty statue was sitting on the bench just outside the Santa's Village at Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth. The girls loved it and thought they'd cozy right up to him for a pic. Cute, eh? :)

Ok, I'm on the run! Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Mouse Mouse Xmas card from Nancy

Today's mail brought many beautiful Xmas cards, one being this sweet homemade card from my friend, Nancy Freckelton whom I met on CST (Canadian Stamp Talk), an online Yahoo Forum for fellow card making/stamping addicts! lol :) Nancy is such a sweetheart and her mail always brightens my day! I just love the House Mouse stickers, I even had to show you all the inside of the card, another cute image, ya gotta love the little mice hanging off the candy cane, don't ya! lol :) Thanks so much, Nancy! :)

The rest of the cards that I received today were store bought cards, so I won't bother to share those, although some are pretty enough to look like they were handmade. I think card companies are really trying to cater to those people that like the look of handmade cards, but don't want to put the work into making them themselves.

Well, we leave in a just over a half an hour to go Alexandria at school and then head to the dockyard to get Jim...Natalia is darn near jumping out of her skin, she's so excited! lol :) It'll be great reunion, I'm sure!

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Simple Snowman Xmas Cards

I was busy last night, I made 15 of these cards...I'm finally kickin' it into Xmas mode 'round here! I decorated the house this morning with all our Xmas decorations so Jim would be surprised when he gets home from sea this afternoon. I think it'll put us all in a nice festive spirit. :) The girls are sooooo looking forward to seeing their Dad, he's been away for a month now, a fairly short trip, but it'll be so nice to have him home for a bit now, especially since the holidays are here now.

Well, gotta run, I'll be back tonight or tomorrow with my next set of Xmas cards to show you.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Elegant Xmas Tree by Kelly

I received this beautiful Xmas card from my friend, Kelly Eelhart, while I was over at her house this morning for a playdate. I love the Xmas tree stamp that she used and gold embossed onto gold cardstock. She then applied cranberry stickles to different parts of the trees to highlight it. Along with the Baroque gold embossed background on the cranberry cardstock, it's such an elegant card. Simply gorgeous, Kelly! Thank you so much! I love it! :)

Ok, I need to go make Xmas cards...thanks for stoppin' by! :)

Altered Jewelry Box

Tonight's projects are ones that I made for my daughter's teachers for Xmas gifts. I used pre-made wooden boxes and altered them with patterned paper and wood stain. One of the boxes has a glass top and the other one has a mirrored top. Sorry for the poor picture, my camera doesn't seem to like the mirrored top...I keep trying to get a better pic, but it's not working for me and now I'm giving up rather than staying up any later, seeing as how it's already past 1 AM and I have to get up early in the morning! lol :)

This is what the box looked like to begin with.

These are all the little pieces of patterned paper that I cut out for the two boxes.

Now, I had to trim the pieces to fit on the boxes.

This is the Mod Podge that I used as the glue to adhere the patterned paper and to seal the paper in. I applied it with a foam brush.

Supplies:
Patterned Paper: A La Carte - Baguette (American Crafts)
Glue/Sealer: Mod Podge
Wood Stain: Authentic Milk Paint Antique Medium (Tulip)
Tools: Foam Brush, Scissors to trim excess paper, bone folder to press paper into crevices, little dish for glue.

Happy 1st Birthday, Maiah!

I had fun making this card for my friend, Catherine's little girl who turned 1 year old today! :) I wanted to make a filmstrip for the card to showcase a few birthday themed stamps...however, I didn't do a very good job using my punch to get the holes lined up straight. This is where a bind-it machine would come in handy, I think! Anyway, I think it turned out kinda cute and I think Maiah will like all the bright colours, I'm sure she'll won't mind that the holes aren't lined up as best they could be! lol :)

This is a pic that Catherine took at Halloween of her dressed up as a Little Tinkerbell, isn't she a cutie! :) She's such a precious little girl. Happy 1st Birthday, sweetie!

Supplies:
Stamps: 4 different sets of Birthday themed UM stamps (Studio G)
Cardstock: Dusty Rose (Bazzill), Black and Flat White (Carousel Rubber Stamps)
Ink: Purely Pomegranate, Tempting Turquoise, Rose Passion, Marigold Morning (SU), Jet Black (StazOn)
Tools: 1 1/2 and 1 1/4" Circle Punches (Creative Memories), Double Rectangle punch (SU), double-sided adhesive

Xmas cards in today's mail

I got two beautiful Xmas cards in the mail today, the first one was a RAK (Random Act of Kindness) from Cindy Connell. It's very pretty and I love the silver embossed verse with the trailing 'fa la la la la.' Very cute! Thanks so much for thinking of me, Cindy! It's wonderful to get happy mail when it's not expected.
The next Xmas card was done by my husband's cousin, Bethany Allison. I like the patterned paper that she used and the way she made the 'JOY' by cutting out the 'J' and 'Y' and free-handing the circular verse for the 'O' was a great idea. Very nice, Bethany! Thanks so much! :) I'm sure we'll get to share some cardmaking ideas when we come up to see everyone in New Brunswick over the holidays. Just not sure how long that trip is gonna be this year with me being back to work, now. I fear I'm not gonna have very much time off! :(

It was a definite happy mail day today. :) I can't wait to start receiving more Xmas cards, I'm finally starting to get into the Xmas spirit, I just get frustrated with the stores when all the Xmas stuff goes up the Day after Halloween or before, it's too early in my opinion and it's hard to get excited when you still have another 2 -3 months before Christmas Day! I don't mean to sound like Scrooge, honestly, I do love Christmas and look forward to getting together with my family. The best part though is to see the looks on my girls faces come Xmas morning when they're so happy. You can't put a price on that! That's what Xmas is all about, not people fighting over things at the mall and the rush everyone is always into get the perfect gift! Anyway, I guess I just needed to vent a bit! I'll stop now before I did myself any deeper! lol :)
